It’s His Turn: Everything We Know About the Snoop Dogg Biopic
West Coast royalty is finally getting the big-screen treatment. Universal Pictures is bringing Snoop Dogg’s life story to theaters with Snoop, billed as the definitive account of the artist, mogul, and gangsta rap icon. Here’s everything confirmed so far: cast, crew, and release date.

This marks the first project under Death Row Pictures’ overall deal with NBCUniversal, a partnership Snoop struck after acquiring the Death Row Records imprint back in 2022.
Who’s Playing Who
Jonathan Daviss (Outer Banks) leads the film as Snoop Dogg himself, a casting choice confirmed back in June 2025. Daviss has said he spent time with Snoop directly, studying his mannerisms and energy rather than aiming for a straight impression. His goal was capturing the young man from Long Beach before the world knew his name.
The supporting cast has been filling in fast:
• Myles Bullock (BMF, White Men Can’t Jump) steps in as Dr. Dre, the producer who discovered Snoop and shaped his sound on Doggystyle. Bullock reunites with director Craig Brewer after their work together on Peacock’s Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist.
• Camron Jones (P-Valley, Panic) takes on Tupac Shakur, capturing the Death Row–era friendship between two of hip-hop’s most iconic figures.
• Lauren London (ATL, Without Remorse) plays Beverly Tate, Snoop’s late mother.
Behind the Camera
Craig Brewer, known for Hustle & Flow, Dolemite Is My Name, and Song Sung Blue, is directing. Brewer has history with Snoop already (they worked together on Dolemite Is My Name), and he’s also handling a full rewrite of the screenplay, which was originally penned by Joe Robert Cole, co-writer of both Black Panther films.

What to Expect
Universal is framing Snoop as more than a rise-to-fame music biopic. The R rating suggests the film won’t shy away from the rougher chapters of his story alongside the triumphs. The soundtrack will pull from Snoop’s full catalog, meaning classics like “Gin and Juice,” “Drop It Like It’s Hot,” and “Nuthin’ but a ‘G’ Thang” are likely to make an appearance.
Snoop teased the project at CinemaCon 2026, telling the crowd, in true Snoop fashion, that after Straight Outta Compton told the N.W.A story, it was finally his turn to have his story told.
